This is our second weekend in Vermilion - what a great village on the lake. The boat is docked right next to the harbor bridge and about hundred yards from Quaker Steak & Lube...needless to say, I have had my share of wings. We are catching perch just about everywhere straight out of the river and much bigger than what we catch in Marblehead. Walleye fish are 10 miles out but scattered today after yesterday’s winds. Winds are coming back tomorrow and will be here for three days.

What a gorgeous weekend and a fun one, too! The Walters family joined us Friday evening. We even ran into the McCombs at Gem Beach. Friday night’s sunset cruise was followed by nothing but sunshine on Saturday. The winds were out of the SW so Kelley’s Island State Park Beach kept us protected for swimming and a deck lunch. We then went perch fishing to catch our dinner. Fish were caught directly N of the state park beach but the current made it tricky to feel the bite. We then moved just north of Lakeside and landed about 35 fish in the boat. Karl had the biggest and Ed had the most. Nothing beats fresh fish for dinner at the Crow’s Nest! Sunday morning’s rain gave us an excuse for a late start. Winds were from the NW so I took them to one of my favorite places to perch, just N of Starve Isl. and E of South Bass Isl. The boys caught 64 fish within 3 hours and the girls caught too many sun rays on the bow. Needless to say, Cole had his first double and Ava gave the sheep head a good fight...

After some great Prime Rib at the Crescent and two nights of being entertained by Locash we headed back this evening. The lake was flat and the sunset was incredible. My wife out perched me with the first, biggest, and most. We caught about 30 perch just off the reef on the NE side of Green Island.

Mark, Jerry, Griffin and Owen took their turns at the reel. Walleye were caught early in the day at Starve Island along with a 16 lb. catfish. After having lunch at Gem Beach we headed to Carpenter Point. Perch fishing was slower than usual. Jerry caught the first walleye, Mark reeled in the catfish and the boys continuously caught and fought the sheep head. It was a short day, for the boys had to go shine in their other sport...baseball.

The wind has picked up a bit out of the SW so we will stay close to shore, either NE of Kelley’s or one of the islands...stay tuned to hear more about our catch!
